On Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, USA Hockey announced its first 15 players who will compete at the IIHF World Championship in Czechia, from May 10th-26th. The roster includes two former Little Caesars AAA Hockey players, Luke Hughes and Zach Werenski.

Luke Hughes, a standout Defenseman, played for Little Caesars from 2017-2019 before eventually attending the University of Michigan, and then being selected 4th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2021 NHL draft.

Zach Werenski played for Little Caesars in the 2012-2013 season before also continuing his hockey journey at the University of Michigan. He was selected 8th overall in the 2015 NHL draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he has since remained a pivotal figure on the Blue Jackets roster, earning the role of alternate captain, for the last 3 seasons.

Luke and Zach will join current Red Wings Dylan Larkin and Alex Lyon on the roster as well. The full roster can be viewed here. We are incredibly proud of Luke and Zach and wish them the best of luck in competition on the international stage!
